One night my stand-up comic brother David and I were sitting on my couch talking about the joke that concludes Woody Allens 1977 film Annie HallWed watched the movie together dozens of times growing up and wed always assumed that we interpreted the endingabout how people get into relationships because we need the eggsthe same way. Annie Hall has self-absorbed humor and romance theme with both characters having insecurities Alvy in his sexual life and Annie on her.

This sentimental stroll down memory lane mirrors the way Alvy looks back on and processes his time with Annie.

. Annie has solidified her identity and no longer allows Alvy to push her around in his neurotic fashion. He gets so upset that he ends up in jail. In the play she agrees to marry him.

Alvy being Alvyalways the comiche also likens his love affair with Annie to a joke about a guy who wont lock up his crazy brother. Directed by Woody Allen. Annie Hall interprets the love and the need for workout n failure of relationship but all of this is treated in a comic way in a way that would move the audience make them cry at the end of the movie.

Vignettes follow in which Alvy woos Annie in Central Park and Annie stutters her love for him on a waterfront dock. Later Alvy decides that he misses Annie terribly. Alvy Singer a divorced Jewish comedian reflects on his relationship with ex-lover Annie Hall an aspiring nightclub singer which ended abruptly just like his previous marriages.

These brief moments of heady romance end with an argumentative scene. He flies to California where Annie is now living with Tony to ask her to marry him but she refuses. Alvy writes and produces a play about his relationship with Annie.

He plays their relationship back like a movie hitting pause on only the most memorable scenes. She has struck out on her own and no longer pines for Alvy as she did after their first break-up when her ego was still fragile and underdeveloped. With Woody Allen Diane Keaton Tony Roberts Carol Kane.

The rest of the film focuses on the relationships impending breakup. On the flight back to New York City Alvy and Annie decide to break up. After coming back to New York he writes a play about their relationship but with a happy ending.

Alvy wants Annie to have sex without marijuana but she is so distant he gives up. He gets a panic attack and flies to California where Annie is in a happy relationship.
